Cancel a Recurring Payment in PayPal

You can easily cancel a recurring subscription payment in PayPal.

What is a Recurring Payment?

A recurring payment is a charge applied to a cardholder in predetermined intervals for services or goods of an ongoing subscription. If you agreed on a subscription for 24 months, the recurring payment will automatically deduct from your account every 24 months.

Now, what if you want to cancel this recurring payment?

1. Log in to your PayPal account.

2. Click on the Gear/Cog icon > Account Settings. The screenshot below is outdated but follows a similar pattern.

3. Click on “Money, banks and cards” to see your account details and then click on the button next to “Preapproved payments“. The screenshot below is outdated but follows a similar pattern.

4. Click on the subscription that you want to cancel.

5. Click “Cancel” – You will get a cancel confirmation message to confirm the cancellation. Click “Cancel” again. The screenshot below is outdated but follows a similar pattern.

You have now successfully cancelled a recurring subscription payment in PayPal.

    This is great, but could you do a quick tutorial on how to set >up< pre approved payments? and not cancel them? That'd be awesome.

    Thanks for this tutorial anyway. I originally had trouble finding out how to get to the pre approved area, especially with the old Paypal theme. Man that was irritating to navigate LOL.

      It is not possible to create pre-approved payments or subscriptions in the PayPal account directly from what I know. It can only be done with the gateway or API such as a checkout using PayPal Standard or Express. I’m glad that you found the article useful.
