WordPress Slideshow Gallery v1.1.1

We are glad to announce that we released a long-awaited update for the WordPress Slideshow Gallery plugin last week and it has been available in the WordPress.org plugins directory since.

This release was prepared with several bug fixes and some great new features to make your slideshow gallery management even easier than before.

You can read the full release notes on the WordPress.org plugins directory. Let me tell you more about the highlights of this release:

Fix/Feature Highlights

Thickbox Image Overlay

The Thickbox image overlay will show slide links (which link to images) in an overlay on the current page. This feature can easily be turned On/Off in the Configuration of the plugin.

Image Upload for Custom Slides

You can now upload your custom slide images in the ‘Manage Slides’ section. The predecessor of the plugin didn’t have this feature and only allowed a URL/link to an image when creating custom slides.

Cross Browser Compatibility

We have tested the Slideshow Gallery plugin in all major browsers and came to the conclusion that it is now fully cross browser compatible.

There was a bug with the slide links in IE (Internet Explorer) which made the slide links useless to IE users which we fixed. Additionally, we improved the loading of thumbnails where there was an issue in certain browsers like Chrome and Safari.

Great Downloads Statistics

There has been over 1000 new downloads of the WordPress Slideshow Gallery plugin since its release last week which is a positive sign.

Since the initial and very first release of the Slideshow Gallery plugin there has been almost 29,000 downloads to date.

These statistics make us very happy and feel that we are able to provide many people with a useful WordPress slideshow solution.

    Hi, great plugin. Thanks. Questions:

    1. How do you make the crossfade transition, instead just fading out and pop out?
    2. I wanna know how to use ‘scroll right’ or ‘scroll left’ effects?

    Again, thanks 🙂

Just upgraded my version and all my old slideshows are broken. I’ve been using [slideshow] to show all the pics associated with a post. I guess this doesn’t work anymore? When I try to specify the post my id it isn’t working. I’m going to try to find the older version.

      @D,

Please change [slideshow] to [slideshow post_id="X"] where X is the ID of each post/page accordingly.

Just wondered if you had an answer for Morten T. January 25, 2012 at 4:20 am – Is it possible to give other users abillity to edit slideshows? Right now it is only administrators who can make any changes to it.

I would really appreciate being able to enable this for Editors of my site.

    Thanks,

I have tried to make it possible with User Role Editor WordPress plugin, but I guess I will have to make some changes in the slidegallery code to make it work? Any clues?

We’ve been using the slideshow on our site and just noticed that the slideshow isn’t resizing the images properly – they are displayed in the proper size in the slideshow, but the full sized images are downloading instead of the sized ones?

In the ‘uploads’ folder, there are the various thumbnail sizes being generated, but the slideshow doesn’t seem to be using them? Any ideas what might be going on?

    Thanx in advance,
    Mike W

Hi there! First off, thank you for making this plugin available to us! The only issue that I’ve been noticing is that no matter what I do with the CSS file there is always a very thin dark line along the left side of the slideshow. I already checked to see if it was a border but it’s not… I also tried changing all the border colors to white and no matter what this thin black/dark grey line remains on the left of the images. I added a padding to the slideshow wrapper and the line on the left seems to stay only the height of the actual image… Any idea what’s causing this? It seems to appear with the image but when I view the actual image there is no dark line…

      @sugar,

You can achieve this with CSS.
You can edit the “slideshow-gallery/css/gallery-css.php” file according to your needs.

Looks like a great plugin, but when I try to add a slide, the management page refuses to upload the image.

    I get the error message:

“Image could not be moved from TMP to “wp-content/uploads/”, please check permissions”

    Permissions are set to 777…

Hi DMC, if it’s not too late, I found that all you need to do is to add the /upload/ directory and then it allows you to add the pictures.

I just need to work out how to actually get the slider working. I put the [slideshow] into the page, there’s nothing. I am using WP v3.2.1??

    Hi Antonio,
    Thanks for your reply.

Links and Images overlay is on ‘Yes’ in configuration.

I’m not a coder, Firebug console and Safari console is not something I could deal with. Is there an easier way within the plugin I could fix this?

    Reply
  32. Sohaila McKee on February 9, 2011

Using 1.1.1 version of slideshow gallery – ‘Open images in Thick box Overlay’ does not work in Safari 5.0.3 and Firefox 3.6.13. I have not tested it in IE yet.
Is there a fix for this? I do hope there is.

Otherwise the plugin is great, although the ‘Read me’ could be a bit more detailed.

    • Antonie Potgieter on February 9, 2011

      @Sohaila:

If Thickbox doesn’t work, did you ensure to enable this setting under Slideshow > Configuration of the plugin? Also, please check Firebug console or Safari console to see if there are Javascript errors that may cause this. There could be a Javascript conflict.

      All the best,
      Antonie

    Hi Antoine,

Great plugin! Thanks so much for your work! Question for you – this version seems to have a refresh problem, now verified on multiple browsers and computers. It seems that when transitioning from a larger file to a smaller file, that the larger file is still visible underneath the “current” and smaller file. Seems like the stage isn’t being cleaned before displaying the new slide? Can anyone else confirm?

Unfortunately, it makes this awesome plugin mostly unusable for varying size material.

    Thanks again!

In WordPress, updated slideshow to 1.1.1. Now all the slideshows are no longer CENTERED in the post, as they had been, and I can’t seem to apply a align center nor a align (threw the images to half-way off in the slideshow window!) How can I center them?

Also, the new caption (default?) font is large and not styled to the site. How can I control the style of the caption font?

    Please help! Thank you,
    Theresa
