How do you add a gratuity (tip) to a shopping cart?

Hello a client of mine would like to add a gratuity tip box the customer can fill in during the checkout process. I tried to create a custom field but it seems like that is a fixed price and doesn't recalculate upon entry. Does anyone know how to do this thanks!

    Thank you for your post.

    Yes, the global custom fields in the Shopping Cart plugin are currently fixed price, you're right.

    I've added this to our development list so that we can build a flexible price input global custom field which can be filled in by the customer during checkout on the cart/billing/shipping to add a donation/gratuity tip accordingly.

    I've noted this post on the task on our development list so I'll post back here when it is done.
