Some Shortcodes Not Working in Emails

I am by no means a web-developer, but am simply part of a business that is trying to get a good website up and running. I have a lot of things I could ask about, but I will start here: I am trying to get Newsletters all set up for my website, but cannot get the shortcodes with links to appear in the emails. Specifically the shortcodes [newsletters_authenticate] and [newsletters_activate] do not display the proper links in the emails that are sent. I have checked and those shortcodes are in their respective emails, so they should be appearing. Also, what is the difference between authenticate and activate? Help is much appreciated as I need to get the plugin working the way I want in the next 2 days.
