[SOLVED] How to get shop categories in menu?

Hi, I've just installed this plugin and I'm relatively new to WordPress. I'm using the latest version of both the plugin and WP.

I just want to show the top (parent) product categories in the main menu, which I guess is the default Pages menu (the WP menu settings interface is really confusing). I turned on permalinks so that categories can be accessed by xyz.com/product-category/category-name, but I don't know how to get the categories to show up in any menu. Do I have to manually create a new page for each category and use a shortcode?

Secondly, if I create a page and use a shortcode, the permalink gets a number appended to it, presumably because the name is already being used with the plugin's auto-generated URL. So using the example above, if I want "Category Name" to be a new top menu item, I create the page, insert the shortcode for that category, and the permalink becomes xyz.com/category-name2. But I don't want the "2" there, I just want a way to link the auto-generated URL (xyz.com/product-category/category-name) in the menu.

Thanks!

No responses? I hope there's more support for this software than this! Do I have to submit a ticket?

Continuing on this topic, I noticed in the demo under Appearance > Menus, there is a section called Shop Categories, among others. Why don't I see that in my installation? All I have is Pages, Links, etc.

    Hello Wes,

Thank you for getting in contact with us, sorry about the delay on getting back to you.

If you are using custom post types under the plugin configuration section as you can see here: http://screencast.com/t/4PAGGrsYSE in the latest version of WordPress (3.6) the created categories are going to be available to be added to your menu like this: http://screencast.com/t/O7AXqMhYg8 if you are not seeing the mentioned item you must please check if the proper options are selected here: http://screencast.com/t/KR2TR2Cg

Still, if you want you can create the pages using the method you mentioned.

Regarding the issue you are having with the category page permalink, please note that if the page was previously created and moved to trash but not deleted from trash WordPress will add the 2 to the page slug, so basically you must make sure that a page with the same name/slug is not under your trash.

Let us know if it helps ok Wes?

    All the best!
